Definition:

A 'girl crush' is when a woman has strong feelings of admiration and adoration for another woman, but NOT in a sexual way. The woman is typically: intelligent, beautiful, sophisticated, charming and/or accomplished. This seems to be something that has become more and more common (& more openly discussed) among heterosexual women.

I realize not all "crushes" are that innocent and harmless - hence the movie 'Single White Female'.

But how would you react? Would you be flattered.. intimidated.. feel threatened or offended if you discovered a friend has a girl crush on you?

(This question applies to man crushes as well.)

I have had “girl crushes” before. The women I’ve felt this way for were the kind of woman I wanted to be, and if becoming friends with someone you admire helps you evolve into someone you like, then great!

I’ve also had friendships with women who I think had a “girl crush” on me. It’s a little strange or awkward in that you don’t initially feel that you are worthy of their adoration for lack of a better word, but it’s a positive friendship, so you go with it.

I’ve seen my boyfriend have “boy crushes” on guys, too. The guy he wants to hang with is cool and exciting, and goes to all the great clubs, etc. It has nothing to do with sex; he just wanted to be part of a fun crowd.

Girl crushes are perfectly normal. I have a couple of them right now in fact. In this day and age, being drawn to or having mild sexual feelings for another girl is a lot more common and socially accepted(meaning accepting that it exists).

But women have been doing that for years and so have men. When that happens the person usually asks the other person ( the one that's admired) to be their mentor. I find it perfectly normal and something that's been going on in the professional arena for years. It's nothing new even if they've come up with another name for it.

Why, that's marvellous. If another woman is hot to trot, then what's wrong with thinking/saying that she is beautiful?
it's far better to feel this way than be bitterly jealous.
But just because I may think another woman is hot, doesn't mean that I want them in anyway, a compliment is just a compliment and it's for both sexes.

Always the "intelligent, beautiful, sophisticated, charming and/or accomplished" people. When are the plain, average, basic, non-essential going to get a mention?
Having a 'crush' is all part of growing up. Try being a school boy with a crush on a (Gay) Male teacher. Many sleepless nights sorting that out. Just let it run it's course.

Anybody having a crush on me would be considered flattering to a certain extent---the extent of flattery would depend on how I view the person and how much respect I have for them. I would be gender blind in this case.

Wouldn't it just be easier for everyone to say admire? Besides pretty much no one in my circle says stuff like that. If a female friend or stranger said that to me I would kindly explain to them that I'm not like that and scurry away. However if some one just said they admired me I would be ecstatic and thank them however i don't see that happening soon lol.

I think its cool. I mean, its not sexual in nature, and people just use the word "crush" cause its easy. I'd be flattered.

sounds like admiration and/or jealousy maybe insecurity in themselves that they couldn't do any better for themselves and I don't mean that in a bad or negative way either.

If someone had that admiration for me, I'd scratch my head and wonder why....then ask why lol.

If a man has that for me, we'll just have to see what we can do about that, as long as he looks good.
