my friend got a managerial job offer in Shell- Nigeria with a monthly salary of USD 19,000.00. All benefits such as housing, medical, transportation, paid annual travel...other perks are all provided...they all sound too good to be true. Of cors we have check the website & it exists. All transactions including job offer, contract/term & conditions were via email. So far he hasn't been contacted on the phone but he does call them on the given contact numbers & did talk to HR or so...we are aware of the rampant scams in this country hence the inquiry if anyone of you has similar offers or experience would be welcome.
Thanks a lot.

But why don't they make a call if its really genuine? whhooa! shell is rather a huge & successful corporation... if its not a scam. ..hhmm... anyway, i'd like to find out if are there other people who have come across such job offers/application and know how was it. this way we can draw some conclusions. tnx for the answer.

Is anything authentic from Nigeria?

Scam, nobody would ever make that much money as an English teacher especially in Nigeria. Nigeria is an English speaking country and they could easily hire a local university-educated teacher for $200-300 per month Did you call the Total head office in Nigeria to see if this man even exists? I would do that before you respond, but this has all the hallmarks of a Nigerian scam. You will be asked to send a copy of your passport, so they can commit identity theft. You will be asked to pay some sort of "visa processing" fees. You may be asked for your bank account number on some form, so they can clean out your acct.

I'd say only 1% of jobs coming from Nigeria are real and these 1% only if you applied for the job and got a telephone interview. The rest are all fakes. Shell is a big company, why do you think they'd work with promiscuous companies, and why the h^^l would they pay $19.000 a month for a normal (not top management) job?

See the info on Shell and Nigerian scams on http://www.oil-offshore-marine.com/bewarejobscams.php and don't be (you or your friend, though I suspect that "friend" is actually uourself) that naive in the future.

Get their name. Then call Shell back on their publicly listed number and ask for that person. If Shell has no knowledge of such a person then it is a scam. Websites can be faked, but phone numbers of corporations are publicly accessible.

Also ask yourself what managerial skills your friend possesses that no Nigerian or other expatriate would. Why would Shell even contact your friend about the job in the first place?

Did your friend apply for a job there? Is the job is within his expertise? Is the salary too good to be true?

There are so many people asking about getting job offers from Nigeria on Y!A.

What do you think?

SCAM, SCAM, SCAM!!!

The call it 419, check out this website:

http://www.419eater.com

Do not respond to any money offer made through e-mail, whether it's the promise of a long lost inheritance, a fortune in a Swiss security vault, millions of dollars from a former dictator or a relative you didn't even know you had.
And don't give out any passwords or credit card details, sometimes they pretend to be from Yahoo or a well known bank and they ask you to go to a site and give your details....always be careful.

Shell - Nigeria does offer fantastic pay packages, I'm not surprised by all that's been included but you ought to give them a call ask them to confirm the contract and to mail the original documentation to you as well as give you a contact with Shell in your home country that you can talk to. If they can meet all these, you should relax about the offer. Why would Shell in Nigeria offer scam jobs if Shell in Colombia doesn't? I've got friends in Shell-Nigeria and they do get paid extremely well.

It is a SCAM !
The salary alone should give you an inkling.

the obvious question is why are they pulling this scam (if its a scam). What do they gain by offering people fake jobs.

I really do think its a scam, but i can't give you any proof. Please dont give them money under any circumstances.
