I just found a crapload of shelters for *men* in addition to women by doing a fricking half-second Google search?
In just Columbus, Ohio, we have: http://www.firstlink.org/fl/services/community_resources/list_shelters.pdf
Then ...
http://4homeless.hypermart.net/soup_kitchens.html
- "Orange County Rescue Mission: Women's & Men's Shelter & Outreach"
- "Oroville Rescue Mission of Butte County: Men, Women, & Children's Shelter"
Do people that complain about this stuff ever do any minimal amount of research on it?

What do you mean by "people open their private residences" for women and children, Ashleigh? Out of the goodness of their hearts, perhaps, but not as part of an established program.
Anyway, so you guys are joking about a man being chased by a woman with a heavy metal object having nowhere to go, right? If a man took his kid into a homeless shelter and told people there he was afraid of his abusive wife, or if his wife came chasing him into the shelter with a heavy metal object, you're telling me that people would stand around and watch interestedly as they allowed her to beat him to death?! LMAO. You guys are too much, seriously.
Did you also not read the titles of the shelters? Did you look at the links at all? What is "Men, Women, & Children's Shelter"? You're pretty sure they only allow women and children together and otherwise kick men out, but keep the word "Men" in their name because it looks nice? I don't get it.

Riiight. Considering the 2 million deadbeat dads in this country who are not locatable and the hundreds of millions of dollars in back child support owed to single mothers, there is obviously a desperate and urgent need for men to have a safe place to bring their children. As IF.
Good night, clowns.

Well all you have to do is a little research, as you have just done wasi :), to know that there are many resources out there for all abused people who need help. We do hear more about the women's shelters because more women seek help than men do in abusive relationships. I would think most men admitting that they need to leave their abusive wife would see that as a hard smack to their pride, and it should not! At anytime that anyone is in a situation where they feel threatened they should leave and get away, no matter the gender. Our society unfortunately sees men who seek help as being unmanly and not only does that hurt the ones who really need it, it makes it down right dangerous or leads to death for others.

No, not all anti-feminists are gay men, wife beaters, or even all men. And if I hit a man, I expect him to hit me back. I am not weak. If I am strong enough to hit some one, I am strong enough to take a hit. If a woman hits a man, she should expect to be hit in return. On another note, if a man hits a woman, he should expect her to hit him back. Self defense. --- Truth be told, I don't like many feminists. They are to extreme, and extremism is never ok. Quite a few feminists think that men are less than women, and that women should be in charge of every thing. That is wrong. Feminism should be about equality, not women being better than men.

Franzia it is just this kind of hate speech that turns people into anti feminists. While you were feeling smug and patting yourself on the back whispering "You go girl you go girl" you gave us a fine view of how little you listen to what we say and therefore if you have not heard and understood then you show ignorance when you post hate material like this. In your feeble rush to get a victory you missed the important parts of what we were trying to say to you. And you wonder why people hate feminism well you have provided your own proof in trying to make us look ignorant with your belittling words you have only shown that feminism is chock full of misandrists. We were talking about men's DV shelters I would think you would know what DV is since feminists are constantly blaming it all on men. And I must say nice try on your make men look like liars tactic too bad for you it backfired and you have shown us once again how much you value equality when all you want to do is try to discredit men.
Sarah if the family courts weren't so biased there would be less "Deadbeat dads "and more" Deadbeat Moms" Statisticly more women fail to pay support than men.
And if more DV shelters for women meant that women murdering men went into decline What does your tiny mind tell you would logically happen if there were more DV shelters for men? Some times you feminists are the best proof that feminism isn't about equality but hate. Thank you Sarah and Franzia for all the help in the anti feminist cause take a break you've earned it.

Just a diversion from dealing with the actual issues. Reminds me of the kids who like to take the focus away from the real issues by telling on their siblings. Immature way to to and maintain privilege.
Changing The Subject (Digression, Red Herring, Misdirection, False Emphasis):
this is sometimes used to avoid having to defend a claim, or to avoid making good on a promise. In general, there is something you are not supposed to notice.

Franzia -- you failed. Nothing of what you posted indicated anything about abuse shelters for men. Everyone knows there are homeless shelters for men.
Anyway, which anti-feminists are "continually complaining" about a supposed shortage of shelters for men? I've never seen anyone complain, so it must be rare.
Everyone knows there have always been homeless shelters for men. Whoever said there wasn't?
What we should focus on, is the fact that women are more likely to be the aggressors that perpetuate domestic violence against their mate, more than men.

As Anti-Misandry said, you are pointing out homeless shelters. There are very few if any abuse shelters for men. There are many for women.
If a man has a psychopathic wife who is trying to hit him with heavy metal objects he has nowhere to go. Meanwhile a woman who is being beaten by her husband has a shelter to go to. I completely believe she should have that place to go to. What "anti-feminists" are saying is the abused man deserves a place to go to as well.

Are you referring to the homeless, itinerant, destitute, deprived, unwanted, needy, disenfranchised, mentally ill, expelled or cast aside?
Having had some dealings with the issue of Male Homelessness I can assure You, absolutely and unequivocally, that Men are far less likely to find shelter or accommodation than are Women.
In Your infinite wisdom did You bother to take into consideration the fact that doors are opened in private residenses for Women with children? Please factor that in and re-evaluate Your initial findings.the

no. men that begrudge women shelters are just complete weirdos. i guess they'd be happier in a world that catered only to them. feminists, on the other hand, want everyone to have access to government help and charities. having known men that were homeless, there are plenty of shelters SPECIFICALLY for men.
squeak:
the question is not directed at the homeless. to my understanding, the question was directed at people on yahoo answers (who are clearly on the internet, aren't they?) who have made claims that men's shelters aren't as prevalent as women's shelters.
edit:
what some of you seem to be asking for is a "men's" shelter for victims of domestic violence. take a look at these statistics. the proof is in the pudding in terms of who "needs" shelters to escape abuse more:
from http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr95prs.htm:
"Among all female murder victims in 1995, 26 percent were slain by husbands or boyfriends, while 3 percent of the male victims were slain by wives or girlfriends."
Yes, an old statistic, but "murder" is directly linked to domestic violence. yes, domestic violence against men happens, and it should be addressed. but, it is not as big an issue as domestic violence against women.
