After watching Joe Torre speak tonight on ESPN, I do have to say he is one classy man. I think that the $$$$ man in New York made a huge mistake saying he would be fired if they did not win the series...The Yanks gave 110%, The post season will not be the same without them.... Maybe next year.. GO SOX!!

As an Indians fan, it actually saddened me when they were doing the post-game interview and someone asked him how empty he felt after leaving through the tunnel for the last time. It's amazing that out of that awful city with all those pompous players comes a class act like Torre. I hope wherever he manages next year he gets the respect he deserves.

Torre did everything in his power to win this past series against the Tribe, he just really did not have much to work with. Just because the payroll for the Yanks is high doesnt mean the highly-paid players are any good, Steinbrenner should know this. Two of your highest paid players are older than dirt (Clemens and Mussina) and are way past their prime. I would put the blame on Steinbrenner and Cashman for paying these old guys large sums of money to do a less than stellar job. Most of the money should go into a bullpen with young talent instead. You can't expect Torre to win with such a crappy bullpen. He made all the moves he could, just not enough talent to work with.

Dear yanksuk,

i think hearing Red Sox fans give props to Joe Torre says a lot about the class that this man displays. i love how he refused to compare his old teams to one another- and how he acknowledged the necessity of luck in the post-season dating all the way back to 1996. It tell syou how much he thinks of his player and the game.

As a Dodger fan- i'm secretly hoping that L.A. would make a move for him and get rid of (a former Boston manager- Grady Little).

i think you may also see a domino effect- with Torre leaving you may see some others leave or retire as well.

As i was watching -- i think more than the fat payroll you've to give Torre a lot of credit for the Yankees success over the years. i think he did an amazing job this year- considering how battered his pitching staff was- and i think they ran out of gas and in this series thye had no pitching (other than an amazing back in time game 2 from Pettite). Mariano is not the same Mariano from years past- and the Yankees got as far as they could go with this team.

I have to admit as a NL guy the ALCS won't be the same without the Sox and Yankees. Good luck to the Sox- cuz those Indians are pretty tough with their 1-2 pitching punch and timely hitting.

Kindly,

Nickster

Joe Torre is a good person and a great manager. The fact that Steinbrenner gave Torre that ultimatum of "win or your fired" after they had lost 2 games was insulting to say the least. I hate the Yankees organization, but Torre just loves the game of baseball and is a true class act. He gave all the credit to the Indians for "beating their brains in". If you don't like a guy like Joe Torre (regardless of whether you hate the Yankees or not) You must not be a baseball fan.

Lets hope he ends up in a city with a team and an owner that appreciates him.

I am a die hard sox fan too. And I think its safe to say that the majority of Red Sox nation have nothing but respect and admiration for Joe Torre. Mr. Torre is a very classy guy and one that best managers the knucklehead Steinbrenner ever hired. Maybe Theo will hire him ..... who knows. But no matter what happens Joe Torre deserves better than what Steinbrenner has given him.

As a die hard Red Sox fan I hate the Yankees but I have nothing but respect for Joe Torre. Torre is a class act all the way, it's a shame his boss is a jackass. I'm a firm believer that Yankees trouble don't lie with Torre, It's Steinbrenner and Cashman. Considering Steinbrenner's history I'm suprised Torre lasted this long.

Yeah, I agree with you. Torre is one of the best baseball men out there and a fine man, too. I, too, am a Sox fan, but lately the Ortiz and Ramirez in your face home run antics have been getting on my nerves. They need to be more professional about this stuff.

i admire pink Sox and yankees. however the "followers" on yahoo solutions who're continually putting one yet another down so I actually have a tendency to no longer combat with the idiots. purely ignore approximately them. A fan can cheers, and boos. yet a real fan, cheers. I made that up isn't that stable for something instantaneous =)

When Joe Torre came back to Boston after a bout with prostate cancer, he got a standing ovation. I think that tells you what everyone thinks of this classy man.
