Why don't NFL players do this? In a 2 minute drill or a situation where a team has no TOs left or something, why don't players catch the ball and just "accidentally" fumble it forward and out of bounds. I mean, it's technically a fumble, and unless you over - exaggerate it or make it blatantly obvious, it seems like a pretty easy way to gain yards.

In that case, do it at all other times. Practice makes perfect. lol. You might even pick up some acting tips along the way. Heck, if you're good enough, always go to the middle of the field and fumble it out of bounds - hard...

Guess you missed the famous Ken Stabler fumble into the end zone in San Diego back in the late 1970's. Rules were changed such that only the player who fumbles can advance the ball in the last 2 minutes of either half.

there is a rule the prevents that. in the last two minutes, fumbling player must recover fumble. so, you fumble ball, it takes a weird bounce and one of your guys recovers. nope ball goes over on an illegal touch.
raiders did that in a game back in the 70's and had like 4 fumbles that were eventually recoverd by raiders for TD in end zone....rule changed after that. no intentional fumbles!

Many years ago the Raiders pulled that trick with Jim Plunkett,so they made a rule that the ball can not be advance forward by the offense by pitching it forward as a fumble, even if it is a real fumble

Sounds good, but unfortunately they've already figured it out and there's a rule in place, you can't fumble forward in the last 2 minutes. They'll spot it where you lost it if it goes out of bounds, or if your own teammate recovers it.

This is a very stupid question. Do you know what a football looks like? Second of all, why would you fumble it out of bounds when you can just run it out of bounds?

I have always wondered that myself, I guess that doing near the sidelines would be a good idea if your going to be tackled in bounds but in the center of the field it would be to much of a risk.

probably simply because it's just to dangerous...the football isn't a sphere and ins't going to roll straight, it could take some awfully strange bounces...
