I did wedding photography for an African American couple a month a ago, they were supposed to pay me in full 2 weeks before the wedding, its now a month after the wedding, they keep giving me excuses how they dont have money etc, etc. I know I didnt sign a contract with them but I do have a copy of a receipt where I noted the amount of the deposit that they paid me and the balance thats due . Does any one have an idea what legal step I can take to recover the money, its about $700.

Did you already give them the photos? If not, DON"T. And next time have a contract...and if the payment is not made in time...no photos. Ya. go to small claims court.

Do not tell them you will destroy the photos, illegal to threaten that.

If you already delivered them, or not, small claims court. The fact you have a deposit, and were at their wedding taking photos, which is easy enough to prove, show syou had a business deal.

If they own property, you can pursue a lean on the property after going to court. Most people do not want a lean on their property for a mere $700 bucks and will pay instead. Hoping you didn't already give them the photos.

Go to small claims court to try to recover your money. And in the future, make sure you have a signed contract.

did you give them their photos yet? if you didnt then dont until they pay. if you did...you'll have to ask one last time otherwise state you will take them to small claims for your money. thats all you can do...sorry that happened..you should have not done the photos if you werent paid 2weeks prior to the wedding like you were supposed to.

What difference does their race make? Money is money, and theirs is as green as yours.

Follow your usual billing procedures, and send them regular statements and if they haven't paid by 60 days, then take them to Small Claims court. I am sure you will have a strong case.

As long as you leave any mention of their race out of it.

Do they have the pictures? If not, tell them they will be destroyed unless they pay the rest of the fees. You should persue small claims court first.

Aww, you're never gonna get that money.. Why'd you take the pics if they didn't pay you. Get a lawyer quick and sue them

If they don't pay you for the photos, don't give them the photos. It seems pretty simple.
