what is the future for database admins?

will they ever not be needed? anyone have any educated guesses for the future of database? any technological advances that will no longer utilize database admins?

I don't see how technology could take over database admin. Somebody has to say how the data is related, and that's not a mechanical function but takes understanding of the data itself. Tools can make the definition of the database less work, but the relationships still have to be defined somehow.

Until software manages itself, there will always be a need for human intervention.
