Y' know places for battered or homeless men to go. It's almost impossible for men in these situations to find refuge even if they have children with them.

Does society think that only women are entitled to these things?

2007-10-08 17:39:29 · update #1

I mean if women are so liberated and equal to men as they say they are why would it be so hard for feminist to think that women could cause emotional or physical damage to a man or that men could need some of the same help women get?

The fact that many men are abused is a problem that is just now being exposed. Feminists have done an excellent job in making look like women are always the victims of domestic violence.

Most attempts to expose the truth of domestic violence is laughed at and/or squelched. Until the truth becomes mainstream there will always be inadequate resources for male victims.

As we feminists have been saying this for years I applaud you bring these points to light in this question. Feminists have promoted men's rights in terms of encouraging males to break free from the equally rigid social constraints that also bind females. The whole child custody argument is due solely to the fact that society views women first and foremost as the nurturers of children and in this respect women are deemed the best caregivers. Yet mra's argue that they want custody despite the fact they feel women's roles are strictly as mothers and wives. My head aches trying to sort out all the convuted arguments.

It's probably because of the Duluth model.
The Duluth model is a feminist way of explaining domestic violence. Basically, it says that the "patriarchy" conditions men to be the aggressors. Therefore, according to the Duluth model, women can't be abusers. For some reason the government has accepted the Duluth model as fact, so basically all government run shelters are female only.

In reality, men and women are equally likely to commit domestic violence. Violence is a human issue. Anyone of any gender, any religion, any ethnicity, any nationality, etc. can commit domestic violence. Therefore, having female only domestic violence shelters is wrong.

("This bibliography examines 206 scholarly investigations: 159 empirical studies and 47 reviews and/or analyses, which demonstrate that women are as physically aggressive, or more aggressive, than men in their relationships with their spouses or male partners. The aggregate sample size in the reviewed studies exceeds 197,900. ")

shelters are mostly for women and children because that is mostly who is in need (in terms of shelters for battered women). these places are non profit and get funding based on meeting needs in their communities. although men can be victims of battery, it is just much more common for women, and also women are most often the one with children while looking for shelter.

There are some shelters that don't allow men because they are places for women to feel safe, women who have been abused.

There are also many shelters (most, actually) that allow men and women, usually they are seperated. And there are a few for men only. Just not as many because of not as much of a need...not to say there isn't a need, just that there is so little funding for these things and more often it's women who are seeking refuge from battery.

The number one complaint of women is that men don’t listen. When a woman is talking, listen to what she is saying. Read here http://AttractAnyWoman.emuy.info/?J2SZ
Don’t watch her mouth and wonder what it would feel like to kiss her. Don’t stare at her chest and imagine what she looks like naked. Really listen to what she is saying then give an intelligent response, preferably on the same subject.
