I'm pretty sure we fought a war 142 years ago to show states that they can't leave. The first state that tries has to change its name to Dee Dee Dee.

There are secessionist movements afoot in a number of states.

Vermont is currently something of a hotbed of secessionist discussion. There is an organization called League of the South that is advocating secession from the union.

I've lived in Texas for over 30 years and there's always been talk of secession here during that time. The issues sometimes vary, but it's primarily a matter of the federal government refusing to protect the borders of the state, which they had agreed to do when Texas entered the union.

Which one is the most likely? My opinion would be California. With the illegal immigrant situation there, many people already refer to it as Mexifornia and, with the inability of the federal government to enforce the U.S. borders, it will likely be reannexed by Mexico somewhere down the road. I would not put the fate of Texas far behind it.

Hawaii. A lot of Polynesians there talk about "the takeover" by the US.

Any state that legalizes same sex marriages should be expelled from the USA. Interestingly our Federal laws are made in a district that isn't even in one of the states.
