usually between 8:30 - 9:00 pm. Remember about 25 years ago trick or treating was great you could go out until midnight. ??

We have lived in this neighborhood for 10 years. We are a neighborhood of about 200 homes and there are only a few that turn on lights to welcome treaters. We have never had anyone come to our home since we turn out most of our lights and enjoy a nice evening of reading and/or watching TV.
Our area has community events to entertain and treat the children.

In my neighborhood it's about 6:00 to 9:00. Sometimes young teens come around up to about 10:00.

My daughter is grown, has two girls of her own, and lives 1300 miles from me. I still treat all the kids in the neighborhood, though. I turn my outside light on at 4pm(it's hardly ever dark that early, but they know I'm open for business). I turn my light off around 8pm. I'm usually out of candy by then anyway.

alot of areas have a curfew time set as a standard for age... no later then 11pm is about the latest iv ever seen... and thats for kids that are much too old to trick or treat anyways... i close the candy shop around 8- 8:30pm and move on to the tricks.... best part of the night anyways. try this ( very fun) take a tennis ball and attach some fishing line to it. wrap in a small peice of while cloth and attach your new ghost to a fishing pole.... toss the "ghost" over a tree linmb that hangs over walkway or sidewalk.. as kids approch click release on fishing pole dropping ghosht right in front of them... some kids will scream and laught and think its the coolest idea ever others will ( and its happened) piss themself in sheer terror and wreak their whole night.... i think the second one is the best outcome to watch unfold!

We turn our lights off at about 8:30/9:00... but I sometimes feel sorry for the kids who get a late start. Their parents may have gotten off work late. :(
