The philosophical answer is that we live for our happiness. There are people --sane, intelligent people, not merely ignorant -- who find existence attractive and interesting. I would not say to find one and copy what they do. I would say to find your own path.
In some ways, you are doing just that. An admission of ignorance is the beginning of wisdom. Awareness of a problem is the first step to a solution. You are looking for happiness, but you are aware such is not found by luck. You are asking questions, so as to recognize the path for you. You are not mentally sick. I think all sane people ask similar questions at different times in their lives. Your mind is alert, looking for your best interest.
Keep in mind that philosophy is of limited usefulness, and the answers you require have to fit your personal situation. Some questions are hard to face, but an answer is possible, provided you are aware there is always a price. Do not get discouraged because you face this fact. In time, you will get the answers you need, plus new questions. Your mind always remains active.

Being you is a good reason to live.. ok here i went through kind of the same thing that you are going threw.. It was after some things in my life got turned a little up side down though.. I had to see some pretty nasty things and experince some things to learn this.. But I belive that the reason we are who we are or a reason to wake up every day.. is actually more simple than you think.. If you are 14 Im sure your parents are near by right.. You may not understand this but you are there baby.. You are what makes there life complete.. The smile's on there faces when there childs face every day makes there life complete.. You have to think of it this way ok ... you are here for a reason.. You are valuble in some way you just have to figure out how and your are only 14 that can take a little longer.. A GOOD REASON TO LIVE!! is to make a diffrence.. Your saying that is not possible.. or ya right get a life woman.. I was 18 years old when i beacame a fire fighter.. I have helped make a diffrence in allot of peoples lives.. and it feels good and gives me my purpose.. I have seen allot of people in some no so pretty situations.. But it was just there time.. You have a purpose trust me.. and you will find it some day.. and you will make a diffrence.. ya all humans do is fight ove stupid stuff and argue and hurt one another i will agree with you there.. but you can make a diffrence by not being one of them.. i belive in god but i also am very open minded to evolution and all kinds of other theory's! That's what is great about life.. You choose what you want to belive and what path you want to take... Just do me a favor and take the right one.. and now that you are valuble to society and you can make a diffrence!

Science has not been able to prove that the universe "created" itself. It is still a theory.Evolution by natural selection is still a theory. God is the next "theory".You say that you are not big on religion, well that's OK,you don't have to be.Just keep an open mind and we will observe a few things. If you agree that it is possible God created the universe and everything in it (including us),you have got passed the first obstacle.Remember i am only asking for the possibility, now matter how remote it might be.
This is my belief.:
God made us in his image and likeness so that we can share the place where he lives-paradise.We are his children. He gave us free will to do what we like. He gave us a few rules to follow and he told us what things offend him.So if we lead a good life ,do what he want's us to do,then we will get our reward. If not, then we won't spend eternity with him.
It is not easy understanding God ,Why he made us in the first place is one of the many mysteries that surround God.We simply do not have the answers that people ask about God,because we have a finite interlectual understanding of God which is not sufficient to give correct answers.
God and the devil conversed, and the devil said that people believe in God only when life is good for them. When things turn bad, they cease to believe in God.The people blame God for acts as if he does not exist.God therefore, allowed the devil one century in which to exercise an extended power over the world, and the devil chose the twentieth century.Today ,as we can see all around us,everyone is dissatisfied, they cannot abide each other.Examples are the number of divorces ,and abortions, which is the work of the devil.
Now you can say everything i said is a load of rubbish and you are entitled to say that. Like i said that is my reason why the world is in a terrible mess.
I will leave it up to you ,good luck!

Life is not fair, and it is sometimes painful and disappointing. Human inconsistencies may be infuriating and senseless. BUT Life is finite. For each one of us, there is an end. We simply do not know when it is. Our purpose on earth is just as enigmatic. We do not know if we have a purpose or what it is, but there is the distinct possibility that we do. Even your microbes and microorganisms have a purpose in the scheme of things. There is a chance that our contribution to the human race will fly in the face of the pain and disappointment and inconsistencies. There are many wonderful and great people who overcame tremendous hardships like Helen Keller, Stephen Hawkins, Christie Brown, etc. No one had better reason to not live but their choice to live made this world better. Live your life to that end that nature intended, strive to make the world one step closer to a world you would be happy in. When you are old and gray, and you will be you will look back on this question and realize you did not even have enough time to do all you needed to. You need to live to do it.

We live because its our destiny, and we are nothing but a continuation. The problems which you around you, the questions which pop up in your mind and to million other minds perhaps; are to correct the errors we made, part of evolution, we learn by mistakes, we enhance our thoughts and strategies, we change the laws and rules, so on and so on. The fights and conflicts are also there, because change can not happen instantly, there are forces against every change and these have their own interest and benefits in resisting the change. But believe that there is nothing which is to last forever in this universe, just a continuation of change. So live your life happily, try to give your upcoming generations, as much as you can, be positive, have sympathy for those who become the target of conflicting forces.

For now science can only make sense back to the big bang. Scientists say science does not yet have all the answers but it will eventually. The question I most likely like them to answer now or in the future is "Is the universe always there"? Life is scientifically, is a by-product of the universe.
I can say what you want to here but that is just BS since there's no definite answer.
I guest that's why people say, "Life is full of questions."

You are right, you are born, you LIVE, then die. How you LIVE is important. Since you realize there are many negative people in the world why not be different. You don't have to pretend the world is wonderful and ignore the bad. Knowing there is bad you can try to change it by LIVING your life the best way you know how. Use that "knowing" to your advantage and step up when called for.

I hear you. There is nothing that hasn't been done. Or so we're told. There is a way to get to it. I can't tell you what it is, cause why would it look the same? But it can be found. Look elsewhere. You don't need to look for answers, you need to look for a way that leads you to the answers you carry inside you. Nobody can give you something that's never been missing. You know? It's in the way you change your mind. It has nothing to do with what people say or do. It's what you KNOW. Trust that. It's the truth. I hope this helps some.

Marble, I can't actually think of an answer why that would work for you because I'm not you. But I can give you a few reasons why I want to live as long as possible and somehow some of these might be something you can identify with. You can change locations or goals to suite your personality:
***
But first off: Don't take the world too personally. And remember - for all the evil, war, religious bigotry and political bs you'll find some pretty decent people out in the world if you look in the right places and want to find them. As to people with sincere, pure intentions, they're also around. I come across these types all the time. Re-focusing on where you're looking might help you find them.
Second: You're living your life, not other people's lives. So look for the reasons why you want to live longer. It's not the world, it's you're life.
***
Here are some of my reasons and you can apply some or disregard all as you wish:
I've never been to Butte, Montana or Tonga or Easter Island in the Pacific or the Veldt in east Africa or the Louvre in Paris. Outside of perhaps Butte, Montana, visiting and experiencing these places is certainly something to look forward to. And I certainly would look forward to walking on the Great Wall of China. That would be most rewarding.
I'm an artist and I want to see what my art will look like tomorrow, a year from now, twenty years from now. I want to watch it grow, transform, evolve.
I'm a writer who hopes to leave some story that will somehow touch the lives of others, somehow help them thought rough times or let them know that there are still decent people around. Let them know that they have kindred spirits in their lives. It's kind of hard to leave anything like this if your dead.
I want to experience someday the small hand of a little boy or little girl clinging to my own hand as their Grandpa walks them through the park or through a museum and points out some of life's great wonders.
I want to see and know and experience our world and what it will be like in five years, ten years, twenty years. I can't wait to learn where we're heading in areas of medicine, science, space travel, etc. And, yes, even world politics.
I want to find out just how stupid Americans are or will stay in voting in horrible leaders and I want to found out if the younger generation will be wiser, kinder, more honest.
I want to experience the future.

First of all, you are too young to think of reason to live.
Mahtma Gandhi was just one common man, not a succesful Lawyer, shy and not a public speaker in the beginning. Studied Law in London, but did not get any cases, and not only that, could not speak in the court properly.
yet, when the time came, the entire India united under him as though in a magic spell. He asked the people to be non violent, and stand and take the beatings of the British Police, his Philosophy ws that; we do not dislike you, but you leave india. To continue to stay in India is your wish, and we respect your wish, but we do not want you here. This is our nation and you must quit. he told all Indians that let the British police do their duty of beating us up, but we shall not hate them, since they are only doing their duty, what they are paid for. We will not resist them also. We will fold our hands and take beatings, but we will keep telling them to Quit India.
The entire nation obeyed him, and people volunteered to be beaten up for civil disobedience. The Coloneal rulers did nt know what to do with such a lot of people who are striking through non volence and peace.
Whe the time came. Mahatma Gandhi could do that. You can find out good reasons to llive, when the time comes, and the time will come soon, have patience. You are too young to be disappointed.
