my question is, they told me on the day I was let go that, that day would be the last day of coverage on insurance. Although, on my last paycheck almost a week after I was let go, I had insurance premiums deducted from my paycheck, why were they decuted if I'm no longer covered? And now that I have no job, and I'm pregant, I can't find another job b/c people dont want to hire someone who is pregnant and no one will sell me insurance b/c I'm already pregnant, AND I don't qualify for medicaid because my husband makes too much. What's a girl to do? I've contacted my doctors office and he wants $600 a visit if there is no insurance to be filled, my problem is I don't have that much money for ten or more visits that I have left. For someone who is unemployed that is ALOT of money. Is there something I'm missing or something else I can do to take care of myself and my unborn child? HELP ME PLEASE, I need advice from someone!!!

My husband works for a small company and they dont offer insurance where he works, we don't get medicaid because he makes too much. I was let go a week ago and still haven't recieved anything about COBRA I have called and asked and they say b/c they are going to mail it with in 14 days so still waiting to hear on that. I sure hope it's not too pricey, I just want to take care of my baby and myself....

The job you got fired from should still be able to offer you insurance. Contact them or the insurance company and tell them you want COBRA insurance. If they are not cooperative call a lawyer!!
They will give you that option, but it will be more expensive than your insurance used to be.

Ok, if you do not qualify for medicaid, does your husband have health insurance? Usually November is the time where you can change/update your insurance information with employers, so he might be able to add you. As far as the premiums being taken out of your paycheck, that is normal, bec that was your dues for your final week.. And as far as money goes, you should be eligible for COBRA, which just means you keep your old insurance, but you pay the whole premium (without the company contribution)... call your work and speak to someone in HR.. I'm pretty sure every state in the US has the COBRA law.. it will be expensive, but you'll still have insurance... If nothing else works, call the dept of health in your state and talk to them.

Your insurance should cover you for the remainder of the month; example. If you were fired in September, your insurance would now be expired. However, if you were fired in October, it should cover you the rest of this month. Also, you should have been offered the chance to use COBRA insurance (which can get expensive). Also, if you have had a 'sudden loss of coverage' you should be able to be picked up on your husband's insurance with no 'preexisting condition' clause. Even if he does not have insurance already through work, but it is offered, he may not have to wait for a new benefit year. A lot of this depends on which state you live in. If you need more info, or some help, please feel free to email me. I work in the medical field and know some of the 'loopholes.' Good luck!

How long were you with the company? Were you offered COBRA? It is a continuation of your current insurance which you pay the entire premium for.
Have you contacted the insurance company? I had a friend that had a similiar issue and the insurance company had to pay the claims until the illness/injury was resolved.
Does your husband have insurance? The baby and you can be added as soon as it is born, but you may have to pay the labor and delivery charges. And that seems very high at 6000.00 up front! Try Planned Parenthood, they may be able to guide you to a less expensive pre-natal and delivery care.

I don't know which industry you're in, but if you're dealing with accounting, it won't be your "End of day" eventhough you got fired now because there are a lot of job opportunities available especially in Big 4 audit firms. My friend, she's just joined Deloitte while she's carrying her 4th month pregnancy. However, she'll loose the 3-month maternity leaves after giving birth. When you attend for interview, you must be honest to you employer(s) by telling them that you're in pregnant. If they need people urgently (especially now market so good), they'll employ you, just don't expect too much on the salaries.

For me, I've just given birth 3 months ago. I've quit my job too due to my baby's unexpected health condition. Currently, my husband and I are doing some MLM business. Luckily we've started it early during my prenancy. At least now it's able to support our household income while I'm not working. Perhaps you can try on some home business. Good luck & cheers!

You should contact the insurance provider. Most times there is coverage for at least 30 days after no longer being employed by the company. If they took that money out and you're not covered you need to find out when they are going to give it back especially since you won't have a job! Hopoe this helps.

Why are you not covered by your husband's insurance?
Assuming you live in the U.S. you can still get coverage thru your old job thru COBRA benefits...you have to pay the premium, but the coverage is the same as you had. Contact your county Social Services department for more guidance.

You may be able to get state help for the baby and any other free clinics in your area! Also, cobra is the other option. Have you already had a visit w/ a doc? it may be considered pre-existing w/ other insurance. If you think you were fired b/c you were pregnant sue the piss outta em'!

Why were you fired? If its because you were pregnant then by they firing you they have discriminated against you, they should have at worst made you take a mandatory leave of absence. If its another reason then the last option is to take out a loan, probably something with a low interest and just pay it out. Not a great scenario either way. Sue them if termination is due to pregnancy or make a deal with the bank to pay it out.

It doesn't cost $600.00 to just visit a Doc for regular check ups for a start.
If your husband is earning too much you should be able to purchase private health insurance anyway.
You don't state why you were fired and if you were covered by any union protection against that happening.
I'd be looking into that for a start. In Australia they're not allowed to sack you for no good reason. Being pregnant is not one of them because they have to offer you maternity leave.
