It sounds like you've got more than one connection (a wireless, and a wired connection) and only one of them has been defined for Internet Explorer. If that one (the wired connection) isn't available when you go to connect, it doesn't matter how good your wireless connection is, Internet Explorer won't look at that connection. What you need to do is reconfigure Internet Explorer.
To configure Internet options for Internet Connection Sharing
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. On the Connections tab, click Never dial a connection, and then click LAN Settings.
4. In Automatic configuration, clear the Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script check boxes.
5. In Proxy Server, clear the Use a proxy server check box.
Restart Internet Explorer, and see if that does the trick for you.

This means exactly what it says, the network cable usually a blue cable but not always which has an end that looks like a phone cable and connects you to the internet has been unplugged, is loose or has fallen out. I would take it out and out it back in, this is the cable from the modem to the computer.

the network cable thing, you need to ignore. That just means that a hardline is not connected. To speed up everything, try clearing out your cookies and all your history. Also, defrag your pc, and you may just not have a very strong wireless signal. It's also a good thing to reset your wireless modem by unpluging it for a few minutes then plugging it back in.

Today, or for some time?
On the bottom-right of the screen, there should be an icon for your network or connection. Right-click it. Examine the options. Sometimes there is an option to "repair."
