Paul Byrd probably summed it up the best afterwards. He said that Eric Wedge has been "loyal" to him all season and that the Indians are like "a family." This is not a team playing for individual stats. CC Sabathia said he could care less about reaching or not reaching 20 regular season wins, all he wanted was to pitch in October. Grady Sizemore is a throwback type of player - all about the team. It is well known that Grady will leap, dive, jump...etc. whether the Indians are up by 10 or down by 10. And who knows about Casey Blake besides Indians fans? A guy who said he could care less what position he plays because the Indians gave him a chance to play in the majors. Martinez, a converted catcher who almost quit baseball because he did not want to be a catcher. Asdrubal Cabrera who came out of nowhere. Lofton who has led by example on the field. Did you see any of this with the Yankees? Did you see Shapiro threatening Wedge or saying CC is a goner if he does not win that game? There is what I believe was the difference between Cleveland and NY. Cleveland played their hearts out, they played as a team and stuck together like family. The Yankees simply felt entitled.

As I said in another post, one of the major differences between the two teams were demonstrated tonight.
Bottom of the 2nd, Runners on 1st and 2nd, no one out, Melky cabrera is up, he doesn't bunt, he eventually pops up and causes an out.
(I think) top of 4, two on, no one out, Cabrera sacs for the indians. The Yankees are forced to walk hafner to pitch to Martinez and he hits a 2 run single to make it 6-1.
Melky got out anyway, he could have moved up 2 runners.
Small ball wins in small series quite often.
So, you are right, individually, position by possition the Indians outperform the Yankees at 3 positions, CF (Sizemore vs. anyone), DH (Hafner vs. anyone and Hafner had a down year) and C (Martinez over Posada and this one is close this year, but shouldn't have been)
But, they treat Wang, because of back to back 19 win seasons like a bonafide ace and he is more the product of that offense. Clemens only signed up for 1/2 of a season, why did you expect him to play a full game? And, some people are all ready to elect Joba to the HOF.

its baseball the sport that you can fail 70% of the time and make the HOF. unfortunatly the yanks failed about 80% of the time this series. the indians played hard, so did the yankees, they got the breaks they needed and had good pitching. one or two hits early in that game and the outcome would have been different.

payroll doesnt execute on the field....the stats of the indians with runners in scoring position compared to that of the yankees speak for itself....thats why they won, they got the hits they needed

Cleveland has an excellent ballclub but they need to put rings on their fingers before we call them great.
