I'm not offended by the stupidity, I don't think it's stupid. I'd rather you ask then guess and not be right.
Transgender: an umbrella term that coveres all areas of people who cross the gender barrier. This includes crossdressers, transvestites, drag queens and drag kings and transsexuals.
Transsexual refers to a specif group of beople who were born in the wrong body. Their body says male and their heart and mind says female. These people will be the ones to take hormone treatments and surgery to correct what is considered to be a birth defect. This applys to females who should have been males as well.
Cheers.

Kerin said it perfectly.
Transgender is an umbrella term used to describe anyone that does not conform to traditional gender roles. This could include crossdressers, transvestites, drag queens/kings, or anyone that doesn't display what is stereotypically "normal" for their perceived gender.
Transsexuals on the other hand are people who have been diagnosed with a condition called Gender Identity Disorder. These people feel that their outward biological sex doesn't match their gender in their mind. These people will take permanent medical steps to change their assigned sex at birth to match the gender that they feel they were meant to be. This usually includes hormones, and/or sexual reassignment surgery. This goes for both males to females, and females to males.

'Transgender' describes a person, male or female, who dresses, behaves or presents in a way that differs from their gender norm. It includes transvestites(fetish and dual-role) drag queens/kings, androgynes and 'genderqueers'. It does NOT include transsexual people.
'Transsexual' refers to a person, male or female, born with Benjamin's syndrome, a congenital neurological intersex condition. Although this condition almost always requires medical intervention, including surgery, it is not defined by, nor limited to, that medical intervention.

Dear Tina,
TG or Trans gender is NORMALLY used as an umbrella term... To mean anyone not GG [Genetic Girl- Someone born with XY chromosomes and living as a woman.] or GB [Genetic Boy Someone born with XX chromosomes and living as a man.] The list of those included in this term normally includes but is not limited to: DQs/Drag Queens, CDs/Cross Dressers, TS/Transsexuals, IS/Intersexed. Although TS and IS normally try to distance themselves from the term.
TS or Transsexual is normally used to reefer to a GD/Gender Dysphoric that is seeking to begin, undergoing, or undergone gender reassignment. This one includes Both M2F, Male-to-female, as well as F2M, Female-to-male, and both pre-operative as well as post-operative. Although Post-ops often tend to distance themselves from this term.
Hugs,
PennyAnn
