I think that he should tell George where to put it and resign with dignity.

The "Boss" should wake up and smell the coffee, his players lost, not Joe.

Heck no, Joe must not go. But, it might be inevitable. The collection of players on paper is the best in the leauge, but only on paper. Not a good team! There should be alot of changes, and Joe might not want to be a part of starting over assuming george wants to revamp the lineup. I think it was a great era for him, it just hasn't worked out the past several years. Joe is class...and if i were george, i would let Joe stay or go or whatever he chooses. His players are the problem. Not Joe!

The trouble is this, if the Boss said it to motivate the team into winning, it didn't work because they didn't.

If he doesn't fire Torre, then all that talk is just that. If he does, players and coaches will realize how little their past and current contributions mean to him. People should always go above winning.

It's a lose-lose situation for George.

thing is, he's not gonna be "fired'. his contract is up and he won't be brought back. i think Steinbrenner made himself perfectly clear, torre will not be back. I will miss him. This is why I was hoping Pinella would've stayed out 1 more year and come back to manage the Yankees. who else is there? Girardi and Mattingly don't have the experience, nor do they have the type of passion pinella has. and what other names are on the table?

It's the only tenure he's had any success at. 12 for 12 in the playoffs. Of course, Steinbrenner's not known for being the smartest owner (see Billy Martin firings).

He did a tremendous job getting them to the playoffs with a sub-par pitching staff (and I'm a Red Sox fan). Baseball is not won by bats alone! Too bad you can't fire the owner!!!

No, Steinbrenner needs to fire himself and take his sorry excuse for a GM with him.
