Accepting fault for the bombings would be a good start. Americas Government along with the Japanese have done a good job in suppressing the truth about the horrors inflicted on the enemies of the Japanese armies during WWII. If the Japanese or the germans would have had the bomb first and they were working on it. Would have used it. Not to end the war but bring there enemies to submission, suppress, conquer and dominate those nations which they felt were far less superior. Thank GOD it was the united states who created and used the first A bomb. It showed the world that we would not hesitate to use it if we had no other choice. It also brought an end to the worlds bloodiest war the world has ever seen to this day. You ask any war veteran who served or was being prepared to join in the invasion of Japan and they will tell you of no regret of president Truman's decision to drop those bombs and save hundreds of thousands of untold American lives

The Japanese position is understandable, and I certainly hope atomic weapons are used never again.
On the other hand, Japan is protected by US nuclear weapons, so why should they take on the expense of making their own? A lesson from the devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that goes contrary to your point (I think) is that those two bombs ended the war and stopped the loss of American lives due to the fierce defense put up by Japanese soldiers on the islands they held and which would have likely been repeated on a larger scale if US troops had to invade Japan itself to end the war.
Never the less, "never again" is the best plan going forward.
It is unfortunate the major powers spent so much on nuclear weapons since '45. It would have been better to build anti-nuclear weapons and other nonlethal weapons, so that "never again" would mean no more killing of any kind rather than just no more killing with nukes. A rifle, bayonet, landmine, tank, or conventional bomb can kill innocent people just as dead as a nuke.

For the @ss clowns that act like Japan does not remember why they were bombed, they do know and still honor the dead both in Japan and the US. There are more Japanese that visit Pearl harbor than Americans. Maybe the US should learn a lesson from the Japanese . That would be preemptive strikes, do come back to haunt your @ss!

Maybe the Japanese should try and remember why we bombed them in the first place. They act like we did it out of the blue for no reason. Youngsters in Japan have no idea about the horrors their country inflicted on others. And those who do not remember the events of the past are doomed to repeat them. They act blameless. Their first principle is ignorance.

I don't see the relevance of your question and your statement. Japan started a war, and fought it with complete savagery. The only regret I have is that we didn't have 3 A-bombs instead of 2.
