LOL! This question isn't useless. A lot of people actually don't know that it is a good thing to rotate your mattress. Most spring mattresses are composed of layers of upholstery that are there to provide comfort. Over time the layers compress to form to your body. A lot of people like this though ... it's like they have their own personal groove in the mattress. But, if you want to get the most out of your mattress, and to ensure even wear, you should turn your mattress. The general rule of thumb is to turn it every two weeks within the first three months of having it. After that three to four times a year (every three months or so) works. They should not only be flipped side-to-side, but also from end to end every once in a while. Noone really does this though. I know that when I first bought my mattress I didn't turn it until I had it for six months, and I've only flipped it from side to side. Again, this is only for spring mattresses. Many manufacturers now make no-flip mattresses which are manufactured so that they don't have to be flipped, so for those looking for new mattresses check around for those. My husband and I are thinking about purchasing a Tempur-Pedic in the next six months. They are way more comfortable than inner spring mattresses.

About two months ago flipped and rotated.
I had a pinched nerve in my back and that was what the Physical Therapist recommended.
He firstsaid that everyone must throw away their sneakers each time they have a birthday and then buy a new pair to avoid heading for back problems caused by worn out misshapen sneakers. He was so right on the sneakers I had to do the mattress also.

I can't say that I've ever purposefully rotated my mattress. I think that we're all psychologically programmed to think that the mattress tag should be facing up and at the end of the bed. (This is probably as useless an answer as your question.)

Its been over 2 years I've flipped the mattress. haven't noticed any difference.
Maybe its a good idea to flip the mattress every time we do the tire rotation on our cars :)

It does make it better for sleeping. I do it once a month roughly. Apparently the mattress sort of moulds to the shape of you and then you "sink" into the bed, when you flip it as i do, it is not moulded anymore and is all firm and comfortable!

Flip the matress every 1-2 months however air it out first. Stick it outside to air or stick it next to the window. I dont have any reasons or dr to back up my opinion just family habit.
