In my opinion, the U.S. is no longer the most powerful country in the world. First, consider the rising powers, like China and Russia. Currently, our govn't isn't doing so well, either, not that I'm criticizing Bush or anything.

Long ago, in a galaxy far away, America had the best factories. It was a creditor nation. It had control over its petroleum needs. America was cool and the world knew it.

Now it relies on borrowing from foreigners to buy imported goods. Its research centers are dominated by Asian immigrants or Asian nationals. Its vaunted army is struggling against lightly armed Bedouins in sandals. Its people are no longer a united community striving for a better society, but self-absorbed consumers trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Times have changed.

If you look at history, which......um historically repeats itself. Then think about all the great and powerful empires. Aztecs lasted nearly 200yrs before obliteration by the conquistador. Egyptians lasted around 500yrs as a monster empire before the Persians came in. The 'greatest empire' the Romans Empire lasted for over 500yrs before being defeated by the Ottoman Empire. Taking these 3 examples into consideration, you can guess that the 'empire' of the United States of America, only has around 300yrs left, until a fall. This isn't based off of any political aspects or global warming and all that crap, just history, the thing that never lies.

There are predictions of peak oil occuring around 2015. america is driven by oil in virtually every way and even a small decline in the oil we have can be catastrophic. oil has provided for a population that is not sustainable otherwise. without it we cannot mass produce food or other necessities.

nations like india and china that are catching on to the population boom that oil energy provides will suffer as well but I doubt as much considering they are relatively new players in this field.

the world as a whole needs to get to work on alternatives and renewables that won't harm our atmosphere. Norway claims their research on Osmotic pressure powered turbines will provide them with 2o% of their energy needs. It is creative thinking like this that will save us. However, the main saving grace is for every individual to learn to live with less. I believe the days of SUVs are nearing their end

You're right. Though, I'd be remise if I didn't add India to your mix. India is to the US what China is to Japan. Both US and Japan are quickly loosing middle class professional jobs to the two countries. Think Call Centers, Computer Programmers, Medical Lab technicians, Accountants, CAD designers, Engineers.... anything that can be transmitted to the digitally for analysis or work, and then sent back is up for grabs.

Well it does not look good at this point. We need a real leader who can work both sides of the political isle and still be a strong defender of America's security. One who will surround himself with good competent people and listen to their advice and then goes from there. We are in desperate need of a real leader, a strong leader who will not allow little political issues take away from the overall good of this nation. Truth is we should get rid of them all and get real people up in Washington DC, who will look out for our way of life, our freedoms and security. If we do not get one in the next 20 years I feel we will be in serious trouble.

Our country is on the descendant because of Bush and his buddies. If they stay in power, I'd agree, but other countries still can't change as quickly as the US. Should the US get back on track, with the next election, we'll be alright.

It'll continue to be a strong power, maybe just not the only superpower around like it has been for the last 15 years.

I think that in our next election we have no one that will do our country good. I don't care what people have to say about Hillary, she is a big nothing and will do our country no good so if she is the top candidate then yes, our country is doomed.

Who do you think is more powerful than US right now?
American history is full of ups and downs. Capitalism is what made us strong and keeps us prosperous. You can start to worry if someone who hates capitalism and religion gets into office. That will be our downfall.

Well, I think you could compare America to the American dollar. That sums it up in a nutshell.
