I recently had new brake pads installed on my 02 Buick Rendezvous and they squeak and occasionally even make a grinding sound. What is causing this? The squeak is almost everytime I break but the grinding sound has only happened once or twice. Help!

I had my brake pads changed on a new car. They still squeaked every time I stopped at a stop sign. I asked the mechanic that put them on Why are my "new brake pads still squeaking"? He said that the company that made the ones I have, have taken the asbestos out of the material their made of and that causes them to squeak. Okay. sounds stupid. who wants New squeaky brakes? Anyway, you could check with a good reliable mechanic about this and we'll tell others when we get to the bottom of it. Its just crazy isn't it ? New Squeaky brakes?! I think they should put the old kind back in.

brake pads are made of a matalic substance that rubs on a metal roter so sometimes when they are new the pad creates a smooth metal spot that more or less just scrapes the roter instead of grabing so it makes the noise..should go away with in 3000 miles if it doesn't take it back to see what they say cause they may be installed wrong or need some lube

Carry back to mechanic and have them check pads for dust. Have them see if line has air in it. Also ask senior mechanic and see if correct pads were used for car(if dealership then they should have somputer information saying what manafactuer recommends make sure they were used.) Also have mechanic check for dust on pads. This will cause squeaking also. Have them also check and see if rotors(the part that the pads are on)are okay or if they have been worn down. If they have been worn down then rotors may need to be lathed down and flipped.

be sure to clean everything with brake cleaner before assembly, and there is a special paste for the back of your new pads to eliminate metal to metal contact also add little grease to hardware

you need to brake them in.

also the brakes will squeak if you didn't drove the car for a while, or in the morning after it rained last night.

sounds like the pads have glazed over, this can be caused by overheating, also you may have a spacer missing

the squeeking is caused when the breaks becom warm or hot.

the grinding is because they are new.
