...I love those old movies, I live in TN not more than twenty minutes from Jim Varneys old home...I remember when he started that character on the old Purity Dairy commercials...the Ernest goes to jail was filmed in an old Nashville prison...I even have an Ernest doll still in the box...it still cracks me up to pull the string and here "Hey Vern" or "EEEWWWWWW"....thanks so much for bringing that crazy guy up tonight, just thinking of him again has made me smile...

Jim Varney was trained for the classical stage. Several years ago he appeared in the role of Iago for a production of "Othello" at the Shakespeare Festival in Southern Utah. He did great credit to the role.
But, his persona of Ernest P. Worrell paid the rent and the light bill. The same thing happened to the actor who played Horshack in the "Welcome Back Kotter" TV series. He was a trained classical actor as well.

My favorite was Ernest Saves Christmas. Also, I have a tape of a bunch of his commercials for various products. I never saw them on TV myself, but I think they were a southern thing. Anywho, at the end of the tape, there's all these outtakes and they are more hilarious than the staged commercials. Too funny! I miss him!

No you are not, I love watching his movies, all of them! I would own them all if I could. I can't get enough of his movies, they were all good to me. I even have a movie of him when he was a carpenter and the tools were all coming to life. "You know what I mean Vern!!!!" lol.

No, you're not alone. I loved Jim Varney's movies, that was real humor. We lost him much to soon.
