Sadly because our society has come to that.....people don't want to think about things, they just want to do things.....people don't read books anymore....people rarely test their minds....challenge their thinking.....they are afraid to push their limits...when it is way easier to watch 8 hrs on tv and play video games......so when someone comes along with an intelligent question, they immediately think you must be "on" something because you are different then the way they think you should be....when in fact it is their ignorance that is blinding them....yes, I am a deep thinker too sometimes...=)

There is a difference between a higher state of consciousness, and an altered state of consciousness. A higher state of consciousness is something that few people have achieved. People like Buddha, and Jesus are some of the few that have achieved a higher state of consciousness. An altered state of consciousness is simply being messed up on a drug, and it typically is destructive.

There are those among us who think that they are superior due to drug use, when we all can see by the foul language, and outright sexual content of their answers that their thinking is messed up. Since there doesn`t seem to be a way to get rid of them, just ignore them for now. We may find a way soon.

both your observations are correct
it's just the standard plain-vanilla kiddin' around gambit that sometiems takes the tension out of teh air
people can accept ideas easier when they get to laugh a little and pretend they're in control of the situation
[edit: I think it might be a form of "one-up-manship" to make comments which have the effect of trivializing or devaluing another person's thinking ]
