You know, those bands that got no airplay that really should have. Or those bands that got very little airplay, maybe only one or two songs, but had GREAT albums. So on and so forth...

Supergrass.

Yes I know they got airplay and were/are reasonably popular. But I still think they are the most under-rated (and under-appreciated for that matter) band of the 90's.

Supergrass are brilliant, their first two albums are amazing. They are nowhere near as popular as the other Britpop bands of the 90's such as: Oasis, Blur and the Stone Roses etc but I think they are far better.

For me they get nowhere near the amount of credit and attention they deserve.

Alot of Progressive bands go under the radar.
My second favorite band, Porcupine Tree, is an amazing band, but very few people knew of them in the 90's and they are simpley amazing. Think a heavier Pink Floyd, theat's kinnda their sound.

Real quick distinction: "Underrated" means that people rate a band lower than it deserves. "Underappreciated" means that not enough people are aware of a band. I think you're thinking of underappreciated.

I would say Kyuss, but Monster Magnet, Jawbox, and Lush listed above are also good answers.
