Retail stores do not file criminal charges. Since you are a juvenile, this will be reviewed by the probation department. They can put you on informal probation for six months and terminate the matter without the filing of charges if they think that is the best way to go. If a juvenile petition is filed you will have the right to be represented by an attorney who will be able to guide you through whatever comes then.

You should receive the court summons officially in the mail or by courier shortly. Usually they assign community service to juveniles accused of shoplifting. It will probably be a certain number of hours. Also, you will most likely have to pay a fine (not sure how much) and your legal fees if you get an attorney. Finally, you will probably be ordered to stay out of Claire's for a certain amount of time. My friend (we are also in California) was caught shoplifting from Nordstrom's and was not allowed back there for 2 years.

You are lucky you're under 18, if not you would recieve a misdemeanor on your record that would keep most employers from hiring you in the future. You'll probably have to pay a fine, and court costs and possible community service. I'm not real sure with California. You should probably seek some professional legal advice just to be safe. I hope you learned never to do this again, and good luck!

I'm not familiar with California law but I would imagine it is a Class C misdemeanor. You'll probably receive a small fine, pay court fees and some community service.
If this is a second or third time you've been caught stealing than expect possible juvenile detention time.

You are a minor and if you don't have previous record can likely have this "expunged" in conjunction with whatever action the court rules, such as fines or community service. Be nice to the judge, don't try and excuse what you did, admit it was wrong, and agree to whatever punishment you get. Jail time would be way overboard unless you are a routine criminal.
If your record is clean you have good chances.

You should get life! But you'll go crying into court and say how sorry you are and just get probation. But the good part when you go for a job interview you can kiss it good-by if they find out about your shoplifting charge. once a thief always a thief.

Hmmm my friend used to always shoplift. Since your underage you probally gonna receive an paper that you have to pay the fee. If you stole 100 worth of stuff then it will be double that. Or you might have to go to court. And I also think they might suspend you from that store for maybe an year or more. How did you get caught? lol

1. A person is held accountable for their actions.
2. Your actions to "steal" hold consequences
3. You may face jail time, you could be fined or both
4. A hard way to learn that all actions hold consequences.
