You don't mention what is the holiday . It's not too soon to start on Christmas and Thanksgiving, even though Halloween isn't even here. Go to some of the major web sites that have crafts, to give you some ideas to start with. Try Martha Stewart's web site, Home and Garden and DIY network for more ideas. You can also do a search on one particular interest you have, IE: free ornament instructions. The web is just waiting for you to ask it something.

Simple craft for any winter / cold holiday:
Hand warmers. Cut out two 4" pieces of fabric, sew the sides up together leaving about a 1/2 inch or so opening.
Use a funnel and pour rice or linseeds inside the square. Sew up the opening closed.
Pop the squares into a microwave for 1 minute and you have pocket warmers. (DO NOT OVERHEAT)
You can decorate the outsides as well. Along with fun fabrics, you can add ribbons, fabric ink stamps, embroidery, fabric paints etc.
Nobody can resist handwarmers on those cold winter days!

halloween, u can do lanterns from tin cans, or milk cartons...
thanksgiving, u can make leaves, paint leaves, and go picking pinecones now, before the rain starts pourin...they make great decorations, just paint with a can of glittery spray paint...christmas, is definitely time to decorate wreaths, or garland...we're going to make our wrapping paper this year...great family project!!!
