You mean stylistically? Not necessarily, but it helps to avoid an obviously mismatched combo, such as Adolf McEgan or Fiona Mercado. LOL
If you simply meant to ask about alliterative initials -- as in, should you stick to names like Aidan and Addison if your last name is Adams -- then I have to say no. The first name should compliment, not be overly similar to, the surname.
Hope that helps.

It depends what you mean by match...
Alex Albert sounds silly.
Alex Archer sounds nicer
Alex Alexson sounds horrible
Alex Lewis sounds great
Alex Marshall sounds super.
All of those names "match" in different ways.
I think that the name should sound good with the last name, but it shouldn't be too forced.
Katherine Campbell is nice.
Kristen Karson is horrible.
Kayla Mckenzie is good.
I would pick a name with repeated sounds from the last name as this sounds pretty, but matching too closely is terrible!
Danielle Patel would be horrible for example.
Also, I like picking a more unique first name with a common last name, or a more regular first name with a weird last name.
Sarah Yevinsky is better than Sarah Smith
and
Isis Yevinsky is too crazy, though Isis Smith works better.

well if youre were married and yes youre children will have do have the same last name as the birth father, but if you just a single guy who just has a girlfriend then youre child might have the same last name still by the father. also not all babbies out there in world does hhave their birth fathers last names cause sometimes the mothers dedicate not to their children have the same names as the men that they had kids with .

That is the general practice, but it is not necessary. You can give your baby any last name you choose. It can be your last name, the baby's father's last name, a combination of the two, your ex-husband's last name, the neighbor's last name, a favorite cousin's last name, something you made up on the spot... You can give the baby any last name you want.

What do u mean by match? it's nice if the names flow nicely, especially if it is a boy and he will keep this name for life (a girl might too)... your baby's surname might be different to ur own... I know a guy called Harry Harrison and I think it's weird... I also know a lady called Grace Grace, really weird....

If its a boy Id say yes, because they are stuck with that name forever. But a girl has a chance to get married and then her lastname might change

Do whatever you want...legally it is easier. Sometimes the babies name can be hyphenatted (Smith-Jones). so that the mother and father are equally represented...watch "Father of the Bride 2"
It also keeps stupid annoying questions down later on....
If the kid doesn't like his/her name...they can change it when they turn 18 anyways!

I knew a boy whose name was Danny Dean. The teachers always called him that. It was kind of weird. LOL..I think it should flow together but not as in one name.
