ATLANTA - The amount of testosterone prescribed to pro wrestler Chris Benoit far exceeded the normal amount for a hormone disorder he was purportedly being treated for, federal prosecutors said in new court papers.

The papers were filed in a criminal case against Dr. Phil Astin, Benoit's personal physician, who is charged with overprescribing medication to two other patients.

More charges against Astin are expected.

Authorities said Benoit, 40, strangled his wife with a cord, used a choke hold to strangle his 7-year-old son, placed Bibles next to the bodies and hanged himself on a piece of exercise equipment the weekend of June 22 in their suburban Atlanta home.

Steroid use has lingered as a theory behind the killings, since anabolic steroids were found in Benoit's home and tests conducted by authorities showed Benoit had roughly 10 times the normal level of testosterone in his system when he died.

Some experts believe that use of testosterone can contribute to paranoia, depression and violent outbursts known as "roid rage."

Benoit's father believes years of head trauma his son suffered while in the ring contributed to the killings.

The government says that even if Benoit had a hormone disorder as a lawyer for the doctor has claimed, the amounts of testosterone he was given "well exceeded normal dosages."

Prosecutors noted Benoit's testosterone prescriptions in court papers Friday in response to an Astin defense motion to suppress items seized during several searches of Astin's office, his mother's home and a storage container he used. There was no immediate ruling on the motion.

Prosecutors said that over a 12-month period endi

I also read this. I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to get out of knowing this.

Okay, Benoit took excessive steroids. This shouldn't be a surprise. Many wrestlers take excessive steroids. Pro bodybuilders take even more excessive steroids. At your local healthfood store, they offer supplements that boost testosterone production. Legal supplements.

So, this shouldn't be a shock to everyone.

However, this still doesn't prove 'roid rage. I was and remain a loyal fan of Benoit the wrestler, but much of what he apparently did was seemingly methodical -- not a violent fit but something that took place over a period of days. Was he in his right mind? No, of course not.

But it wasn't 'roid rage. I've seen 'roid rage. It comes and then it goes. It doesn't last for days. Benoit's problems were deeper than excessive testosterone.

As a friend of mine once said, we are each of us one really bad day away from the asylum. I'm guessing Benoit had that one really bad day.

He was on the Juice that's obvious just lokoing at how much bigger he had gotten over time.

But there are too many variables as far as determining why he did what he did. The brain studies, the hidden drugs, his son potentially being ill.

The only people who know why he did what he did are Chris and God. We can only speculate.

The fact that this filth pushing, cretin of a doctor is still trying to drag down every wrestler with him is disgusting. I hope that he spends a long time behind bars.

Yes, we all understand his lifestyle just like hs best friend Eddie Guerrero he had his demons, He was too to himself to talk about it to anyone besides Eddie. Chris Brain was messed up from concussions, bruising and a loss of a best friend, I dont know why the News had to run this I read it on AOL and I remembered it all again. It's over, you dont have to give this constant remindance, can we forget those last days that ruined our faith in what we saw for 21 years, a man that never was lazy,. lets remember those legendary moments of his life we got to share with him. Benoit's brain damage made him crazy for a night he mourned he cried he prayed for his love's souls, in a bad state of mind he decided that his son should be with his mother in heaven he drugged him to feel no pain, and smothered him, then ended a legacy, Chris Benoit was not a sick un caring killer, we know that, and it is sad to see what one man's life dream became the cause of its end. I will never forget him, he gave me alot, and i dont think he would think of doing it in concuosness, just read his diary, all he did was rave about how he loved his fans and family even more than his own being, he wouldve gave his life if he knew any of us or his family so the least we can do is respect his career

well placing all the blame on one particular thing isn't just right or even
i thing that when it reach killing it couldn't be just roid rage , although it may or may not play a factor ....
the thing is there is that brain damage thing do to several concussion chris benoit being through his career but the problem is when this repport was out the people already have been moved on , the conclusion have been made and the labbel killer was already printed .(anyway it easier this way and people could moved on).
but lets not forget that those damage are the reason to irrationnal behavor and deep dark depression something he already been through after losing two of his closest freinds (including eddie guerrero )and we have to say that his quiet english caracter didn't help either ,keeping it burning inside in addition of all the pressure he've been through in additon to the loneley kind of lifestyle because of all time traveling i might say it's a recepee for desaster ...
if you ask me i don't think chris benoit is a bad person and i don't think his burning in hell ...
i actually think he's a great person and wrestler and his final act dosen't describe at all the real person he was
i blame WWE after the brain repport was out they could do someeffort to clarify his name but insteed they berry their head in the send and cme out with an responce like we understand that crazy man search to understand what happen with his son ....shame on them !!!
but as far ias i'm consider i'm chris benoit fan and proud to be
