Louisiana was considered a slave state under the Missouri Compromise of 1820. And was still a slave state in 1857 when the Suprem Court decision was handed down on Dred Scott vs. Sanford Case .

All of the southern states, including Louisiana, were slave states before the Civil War.

Yes...they seceded in 1860's due to the issue along with most of the other slave states
