Hi, I broke my wrist almost 7 weeks ago, my plaster is hopefully coming off on thursday and also k-wires are being removed.

I have a decent (not full) amount of movement in my fingers, what I want to know is what to expect when the plaster is removed and how long until I have a full range of movement?

thanks

Not for a while regardless, but you really need to state your age. It isn't just the bone, it is also the ligaments and muscles etc around it so it is really impossible to know without seeing at least an x-ray! Everyones different, but if you are fairly young and its not too serious then prob a month at least. You will prob need xrays & check ups for a couple of months. Old... well then thats a completley different story!!! Sorry can't be of more help!

I broke my wrist when i was in high school and once my cast was off it took me about another month or so before i had full motion it my wrist. I can remember there was still some pain once i regained full movement, but nothing too serious.

It is going to depend a lot on how much you "baby" it. Try not to "baby" it too much because it will make it take longer.

It depends on how bad the break is and your age. I broke both bones in my leg in April 2007 and I am still going through rehab. According to the doctor it takes a good year before you have full function back. I definitely recommend rehab. It will make a huge difference.

i always thought how crazy weak your musles get after being in a cast for a while... your looking at 6months to a year before your hand works like new. when i removed my cast on my wrist i could harly lift anything because it was so painfully weak. i would actully get pissed off about it and force heavy lifting just to speed up the recovery. it all depends how tough you are and your age.

If it's a fairly serious fracture, it's going to take a while depending on your age and how vigilent you are about physical therapy. If all goes well, it's still going to take 6 months to a year.
