Alright, here it goes....

Northwestern China is very sparse and rural. Most of it consists of Central Asian steppes (rolling hills with little vegetation). To summarize, Northwestern China's economy is mostly centered around mining.

The biggest province in Northwestern China is Xinjiang. Xinjiang is known for its fruits and produce, including grapes, melons, pears, cotton, wheat, silk, walnuts and sheep. Xinjiang also has large deposits of minerals and oil. Other provinces in the Northwest are Qinghai (also rich in oil and minerals like steel and copper), Gansu (VERY rich natural resources and minerals), and Xizang (also known as Tibet). The economy in Xizang is the least developed in northwestern China and very centered on agriculture.

Northeastern China is the "Rustbelt of China". During the early Communist era, up until the 1980s, Northeastern China was the manufacturing centre of China. Stateowned factories and mines produced coal, steel, oil, and heavy manufacturing. Following the economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping in the 1980s, Northeastern China's manufacturing began to decline, as most the jobs and factories couldn't compete with the new special economic zones in the South and on the coast. Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang are the two major provinces in the Northeast.

China's Southeast is the economic powerhouse of China. This is where all the factories making the products which are sold cheaply around the world are made. The Southeast's economy is mostly based on manufacturing and export.

Guangdong Province is the wealthiest and most developed of all of China's provinces. (This where Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen are.) Guangdong officially became the most populous province in January 2005. Additionally, the province is now one of the richest in the nation, with the highest total GDP among all provinces, and has managed to attract 30 million migrants.

Other wealthy Provinces in China's southeast are Fujian (which faces Taiwan across the Taiwan Strait), and Zhejiang (which includes the wealthy city of Hangzhou, and border China's largest city Shanghai).

The Southwest is only slightly behind the Southeast in economic development. Mostly thanks to Sichuan Province. Otherwise the Southwest would be far behind the Southeast in economic development.

Sichuan has been historically known as the "Province of Abundance". It is one of the major agricultural production bases of China. Aside from Agriculture, Sichuan is also one of the original special economic zones started by Deng Xiaoping during his reforms in the 1980s. Sichuan is now one of the major industrial bases of China. In addition to heavy industries such as coal, energy, iron and steel industry, the province has established a light manufacturing sector comprising building materials, wood processing, food and silk processing.

Hope this all helps you,
Peace.

China is very unevenly populated and equally unevenly developed. The farther you go away from its Eastern coast, the greater percentage of population works in agriculture.

Northwestern China, especially Xinjiang, is populated to a large extent by the non-Chinese (including the Uyghurs, the Kazakhs, the Kyrgyz, the Mongols, the Russians, the Xibes, the Tajik, the Uzbek, the Tatars, and the Manchus). The Chinese (even when you count the Hui minority along with the Han) account for about half of Xinjiang's population.

In China, Xinjiang is known for agricultural products, including grapes, melons, pears, cotton, wheat, silk, walnuts and sheep. Mining is a big industry there as well...
