We all know what Nietzsche was about: abandoning unworldly predicates and suppositions and elevating oneself above the herd via the Will to Power. But that's the thing, practicing Will to Power in its most stripped down and rawest form is nothing short of animalistic, and it rarely brings about positive rewards in our current egalitarian society. If anything it'll land you in jail. No matter how ambitious or passionate an individual may be, there are just some external forces that we incapable of controlling, like the weather or the socio-economic classes we are born into.

What does Nietzsche suggest? Niches, maybe? Finding a field of expertise in which to invest time and energy? A sort of outlet or conduit by which the Will to Power is expressed despite its ineffectiveness in other aspects of one's life?

He was promoting the idea of 'survival of the fittest'. Part of that would be to adjust to your situation. Politicians do it all the time-that's part of the reason they contradict themselves so much. I guess if there's an ultimate goal, he would be against settling in a 'niche' and act according to the situation until you're satisfied with where you are.
