does vitamin e work that well?

Has anyone had any really good experiences with taking vitamin e for hair growth and nail growth? Also do you take it in pill form?

I have been taking 400 IU of vitamin E for a couple years now and lately have been questioning the benefits as I read it doesnt really help the heart. dont know about hair that only grows so fast. and i work in food so always clipped nails short.
