If Steinbrenner stays true to his word and the Yankees don't move on, will George consider Joe Girardi for the position of manager? More importantly, knowing the organization as he certainly does, would Girardi take the job?

I think if Torre goes, since the Yanks didn't advance. Mattingly would be a good choice for manager, he deserves a World Series ring. Joe Girardi would also be a good choice, but I also think he is too comfortable where he is now to face Georges' wrath all the time.

Why would he want the job? Why would anyone want that job? Talk about running into a meat grinder. Plus, Girardi is a control freak. He's going to want power with the team, and with 250 million invested, I doubt he'd get much off the field. Sorry, but unless you're looking for a circus, Girardi probably isn't the guy for the job.

I don't think they told him not to take the job. And I always figured that they moved Dan Mattingly to the bench coach this year, because he was going to be the next manager, but after Girardi turned down the job in Baltimore, it got me thinking that maybe he's hoping to be the next manager of the Yankees. I really don't know what is going on here, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Best of luck to Girardi.

I think he likes the broadcast booth too much. He had a lot of offers this past season and he turned them down.
