I started playing ukulele when I was 9 or 10, and recently bought one after all these years. I'm having so much fun with it. I understand that there is a renewed interest in ukulele playing ever since a musician from Hawaii made the charts with a cd. There is a music store in my community that offers lessons, but I think I'll do okay without. However, it might be fun to meet others who love the "uke".

Yep...my mother and her father played the uke. I played a little as a young child but "graduated" to the guitar as the uke was definitely not cool when I was a teen. I think my mom still has that uke stored away somewhere.

I've never played a ukulele & have no interest in doing so, but when I hear the word "ukulele," I think of the late, Arthur Godfrey, playing the ukulele wearing an Hawaiian shirt. That was many moons ago.

My parents lived in Hawaii for about a year. They were there when Pearl Harbor was attacked. At any rate they both learned to play and played most of my young years. I learned a little, but I haven't played in many years. I always liked the music.

I have you beat! My dad played and I was playing by 5 yrs old. I was in a talent contest in 1st grade and won for playing Peg O MY Heart,Sunny Side of The Street, Molly Malone, and Shine on Harvest Moon.I haven't seen the uke in 56 yrs, they must have thrown them out when my parents moved to a sunny climate and I was busy raising 3 kids. I don't think my fingers could play anymore due to arthritis. Thanks for the memories, I hadn't thought about that in over 50 yrs.

Most adorable instrument ever...I had one as a kid, my father's best friend could REALLY play it and taught me a lot, tho my tin ear & inattentiveness didn't make me much of a striver...but Uncle Gene could play the uke AND the banjo and was the mega-hit at all parties, always. He always propped one foot up on a stool to play the banjo, but cuddled the little uke right in by his necktie to strum away. Thanks for the memories! [p.s., "5 foot 2, Eyes of Blue" was my fave party piece]
