I just purchased a tortoise frrom the pet store, and I am not too happy. First, the guy told me it was a galapagos tortoise, only to find out that he is a sulcatta. Second, all he has been feeding him is romaine lettuce, because it has more nutrients than reg lettuce. I need to know exactly what to feed him. He is a little, little guy. Not even the size of my palm. Any points or tips and food wise people for tortoise's please feel free to answer. If you could also let me know where to purchase the things i need, ie. grocery store or pet store, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much in advance.

hatchling sulcata tortoises are not hard to feed. they will actually chew on most of the things that you provide them so you beter be careful. Dark green veggies are the best ones for them. Do give them some carrots and squash sometimes ( around once every two weeks or even once a month). Provide a basking area/basking light with timer (i use a 60 watts bulb at 1 foot height open for 6 hours) as well as a full spectrum UVB light and a hide box (an inverted clay pot with an opening would do great). If you have limited resources for dark green veggies, you can dip some common dark greens veggies to calcium powder and vitamins to provide your tortoise with the complete diet. Soaking them is also important, around 15 mins daily. Just watch out for nasal discharges as I have a lot of friends whose sulcatas died from "Hatchling Failure Syndrome". Goodluck.

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://tinyurl.im/aHLxv

The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true

Galapagos tortoises are protected I believe, and can't be sold. Sulcatas will grow extremely large (over 100 lbs.), and will need a secure yard with a heated house in the winter. Romaine is not a good diet choice...they need a complete "salad" of greens, vegies, fruits and vitamins daily. They have specific heat and light requirements as well.

Smush up a tiny amount of banana. Turtles usually eat that.
