Europeans are not as hung up over nudity and sexuality as we are; though it does vary between regions. The British are certainly closer to Americans than the Scandinavians. are.
The best descriptions of Americans came from the French, who described us as 'decadent Puritans'. Americans either love sex or we've been brainwashed. We get bombarded with it every day- from Madison Avenue, through cable and network television, from the porn industry (~$2.5B) et alia. We somehow believe plunging necklines is good while breastfeeding (y'know, what mammals do to nurture their young) is, for lack of a better word, "shameful" and uncomfortable to watch.
I went to Finland to visit a friend and we're going out to a party first night I'm there. My girl asks me to get a phone book because she's borrowing a car while I'm there (normally she uses the buses) and wants me to flip to the local map in the front. Simple enough; then I look at the bottom of the page and there is an advertisement in the yellow pages for a mattress company with a woman buck naked and spread eagle in the photo. It wasn't a gossed up or sexy ad. Just a woman- naked- on a mattress in the yellow pages. Finland, it seems, has a negative population grow and the government is actually trying to *stimulate* the populace into having kids to keep the nation going. Which should tell you something about the libido for the country.
In some semblance, since we think of sex as dirty, we keep having sex. They have no issues at all over sex, so much so it isn't as big a concern if you have sex or not. That always hit me as odd.

Europeans are "Westerners."
They are, however, very much more open about sex and sexuality. America was founded by the Puritans, who were very hard to repress anything sexual, and that legacy carries on in America.
Many, many countries are much more open about sexuality, including most European countries and most Asian countries, where women have always been much more equal with men in society than in Europe.

Heh I was just about to say the same thing you said! Lol
Yes, they are MUCH more open-minded to things in general than we are. America is still full of lots of people who think like they're in the 18th century.
I want to move there one day... :-D
