13 is a bit too young, but when it's time, get both kinds, why not disfigure your face?

Your mom thinks shes too young and so does the law. Without a parent you can't get a piercing until you're either 16 or 18 depending on the state. No piercer will pierce a 13 year old without a parent and if they will then stay away from them completely.

In my opinion 13 is too young. And I'm not against peircings (I think they look awesome). I think 16, too. (with parent consent) Maybe 15 since she is so eager and knows how to keep it clean. Yuck, you definately do not want an infection in your lip.
I think 13 is too young because if she gets it and decides she doesn't want it, too bad because now she's tuck with it. Unless, you let it grow back in and that might come with a little scarring.
But then it all comes down to the parents, if your mom thinks 13 is a good age...nothing else really matters. Its up to her.

I know she can't get it professionally done without parental consent. That might be a bad thing if you think she might attempt to do it herself or have a friend try. If you think it's bound to happen anyway, have her get a ring and make sure she sees a professional. I think a ring would be easier to clean because it spins around and any food particle that could get in there can be pushed out rather than in. So if she was cleaning it she could spin it from the top outward to help pull bacteria out. With a stud, pulling it out to clean it would pull bacteria from your mouth into the opening. At least until it heals all the way.

by law 18 to get id done yourself. I have seen one year old babies with pireced ears. Lips are no different than ears, except for the fact that more germs usually hang out on lips, and come in contact with them. At 13 prob too young to properly take care of a fresh wound/piercing. An infection could be really bad considering how much stuff comes with contact with lips. Get it if you have an adult check on it daily and they allow you to, if you mom says its infected and you need to see a doctor she is prob. right and will say told you so. Lop piercings are not eays to keep sanitary.

I got mine done with I was 16, and I love it. But I think 13's a bit too young. Try waiting until she's 16 and if she still wants it, go for it. You can get it peirced with either a stud or a ring, but a ring is easier. You can move it more to keep the blood from caking on it, and you can reach the hole easier to clean it. Make sure you go to get it PROFESSIONALLY done, to prevent a higher risk of infection.

13 is too young to decide if you want to put a permanent hole in your body I think, but its her decision. Also, she can be ANY age and get it done as long as she has a parent there with her to sign for it until shes 18. However even if she got it done now and took it out in a few years, most of the time you cant even tell where it was so it wouldnt be that noticeable.

13 is way to young to get a body part pierced! I have had plenty of piercings and I believe you should be 17-18. She is your sister and you need to watch out for her. Do not let her get that done!

I would actually like to get one myself. Problem is, I'm only 15 going on 16. You have to be at least 18 to get a piercing by yourself at a parlor. If you're not 18, you have to go with one of your parents. You have to take a birth certificate and the parent has to bring along their Id for proof that they're really the parents.

Yeah 13 is too young. When you get a lip piercing at a young age, it says too much. It is not good for a young girl to get facial piercings till about after 16 years old.
