The group is the Lovin Spoonful that featured John Sebastian. The song: "what a day for a daydream". Anybody back in the 60s knows that a spoonful was a fix of heroin.

The original version for this was from 60s pop band The Lovin' Spoonful, which took their name from an old Howlin' Wolf blues song. I won't explain exactly WHAT a "lovin' spoonful" is except that it occurs at the, er, end of the "act of love" (trying to state it in a way that's OK for all ages :D )

Daydream...Lovin Spoonful(1966), written & sung by John Sebastian, and yes he is the one singing it on that commercial too.
