what actions can you take as an employee when the negligence of an employer endangers your life? if you were forced to quit because of this dangerous working situation would you still qualify for unemployment?

In many jurisdictions a person who believes that to continue working under certain circumstances is dangerous to him/her or others, that person may refuse to work until the situation is improved. Most labour laws permit that and it is usually in union contracts. If the employer fires you for refusing to work you have a very strong claim against them for violations of most labour codes. Assuming you work in a non-union environment be sure you make careful notes as to who you told about the situation, when you reported it, and the answer you receive. If you hear other employees saying the same thing make note who said what and when. If nothing gets done contact the appropriate labour board or agency and make a report to them. If you get fired for making waves you will have a great case to sue the employer for lost wages, etc. Good luck!!

My understanding of unemployment is limited - but in general, if you quit - you do not qualify.

You may want to consider notifying management of the dangerous situation.
