Ok, so my friend told me that suave shampoo kills fleas on your pet. I have an outdoor cat that lives in my barn, and I would love to bring it inside, but I'm worried about a flea infestation. Are there any other remedies besides purchasing expensive stuff? I'm willing to buy flea medication and/or shampoo, but I don't want to waste the money if I already have something that will work. thanx

No, it does not.

Dawn (or Joy) Detergent and water does kill fleas. However, I would still apply a topical flea/tick treatment like Frontline on your outdoor barn cat once a month. Getting rid of fleas in the home is a HUGE pain. I would do anything to avoid it at all costs.

No, it won't. Flea shampoos do not work. I'm afraid it's only the expensive ones, from vets, that do work - Frontline isn't really that expensive though.

Stores aren't licensed to sell the proper flea-killing drugs, so their stuff doesn't work. Yeah it's cheaper, but it's a waste of money. Go to a vets and pick up some Frontline - also a lot easier than trying to bath a cat!!

EDIT: NOT Hartz, of all things! It's very dangerous stuff - check out www.hartzvictims.org. No wonder it's not expensive, they could hardly justify that!!

Unless they have added a cat-safe pesticide, you're out of luck with that bit of advice.

You can find a good tick and flea med at almost any pet store, grocery store or pharmacy like CVS, etc. or online.

The Hartz brand is not terribly expensive. Regardless, you will have to apply it monthly or risk an infestation in your home, which is Yicky and difficult to cure once begun.

Buy a cat med, not a dog med. There is a difference.

An outdoor cat may never become a good indoor-only cat so until you have a "hard" frost, stay with the monthly program if the cat is going outdoors at all.

Best wishes from a fellow cat lover! >^..^<

Yes, any kind of soap will kill flies, BUT the trick is you have to leave it on for at least 15 minuets or even longer to work. Now I don't know about you, but 15 minuets trying to keep a wet dog calm, NAAA, Pay a bit for good flea shampoo, and follow the directions carefully. Good Luck (-:

any shampoo will wash off many of the fleas, however to kill them you need a pet shampoo that contains special chemicals that will kill All of the fleas.
