He pioneered the modern concept of pathological processes by his application of the cell theory to explain the effects of disease in the organs and tissues of the body. He emphasized that diseases arose, not in organs or tissues in general, but primarily in their individual cells.

1) the basic organizational unit of all living organisms. 2)Cell Theory refers to the idea that cells are the basic unit of structure in every living thing 3)The cell was first named by Robert Hooke in 1665. He examined very fine slices of cork and saw billions of tiny pores that he remarked looked like the walled compartments of a honeycomb. Because of this association Hooke called them cells, the name they still bear. Rudolf Virchow: he is perhaps best known for his theory Omnis cellula e cellula ("every cell originates from another existing cell like it.") Matthias Jakob Schleiden (April 5, 1804 - June 23, 1881) was a German botanist and co-founder of the cell theory, along with Theodor Schwann and Rudolf Virchow. While a professor of botany at the University of Jena, he wrote Contributions to Phytogenesis (1838), in which he stated that the different parts of the plant organism are composed of cells. He also recognized the importance of the cell nucleus, discovered in 1831 by the Scottish botanist Robert Brown, and sensed its connection with cell division. Theodor Schwann was a German zoologist. His many contributions to biology include the development of cell theory and the discovery of Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system. I just pasted stuff i found of wikipedia- just search the names of the people and you will find more info :)
