I have been having a heck of a time getting to sleep and staying asleep. I was wondering if there are any bad side effects of taking an OTC sleep aid??

No. It's not addictive. But heavy use can have effects on the liver and prolonged, chronic use can cause liver damage.

One other warning: DO NOT take Tylenol while consuming alcohol. That WILL damage the liver.

Try one of the OTC sleep aids instead. Your pharmacist can tell you about any side effects.

It's okay for short-term use. But it CAN get addictive--I had terrible troubles sleeping so I started to take Tylenol PM...after a period of 2 years or so I was taking up to 8 a night (my tolerance had gone up so much.) I eventually contacted my doctor after a (mistake) near-overdose. You should contact a doctor if you're having trouble sleeping--there is often an underlying cause. But for now--until you see a doctor--it's okay to take it.

my doctor told me not to take it more than 2 or if really needed 3 times in any 7 day period. He said it could cause internal damage
