No eggshells will not, nor will coffee grounds or citrus fruit skins. Bones may harm it, as will too many potato skins, but they may just clog up your pipes. Anything that is really stringy, rock like (like fruit pits), or very starchy or of animal origin like steaks, burger etc. is not recommended for your garbage disposal. It will do fine with most other food stuffs, be careful not to allow paper or plastics to go down.

Anything you put in the disposal has a potential for creating a clog somewhere down the line. Put as little as you have to down the disposal. Put nothing solid in the disposal if you have a septic system. Anything solid going through a municipal drain system has to be "strained" and treated and just creates more pollution in our waterways. Send the Eggshells to a landfill or compost them. REMEMBER.... a garbage disposal is a plumber's best money maker!!!!

I have heard that eggshells actually help clean the pipes and the blades of the disposal unit. Just use water so the shells flush down the drain properly

Eggshells wont harm a thing. Pasta is something you want to avoid. Large amounts of pasta could expand (when it isnt cooked all the way) and clog the pipes, then you would have to have it taken apart.

You should save those egg-shells in an old lidded jar of some sort and use those to fertilize your favorite trees or bushes in front of the house.. Eggshells are an excellent source of fertlizer for greenery..

I have heard they actually help clean the inside of the disposal....but I guess whether they go through your drain pipes that good. Since they really don't float...it appears they would stick to bottom of pipes and cause future plumbing problems.

Never have had a problem with egg shells and I do a lot of cooking and baking. They are paper thin so there wouldn't be a reason for concern.

No, just turn on the water so the shells are washed down.
