You plan to make 6 times a chili recipe and 6 times a guacamole recipe. The chili calls for 2/3 cup of chopped tomatoes and guacamole needs 3/4 cup. One small tomato makes about 1/2 cup of chopped tomatoes. Will 12 small tomatoes be enough?

let chili=c , guacamole=g, tomatoes=T ,small tomatoes=t
so
we have
c=2/3T
g=3/4T
t=1/2 T --->T=2t

we need 6c + 6g

6c+6g=6*2/3 *2t +6*3/4 * 2t=24/3t + 36/4t=8t+9t=17t
so 12 will not be enough

1 chili needs 2/3 tomatoes
and 1 guac needs 3/4 tomatoes

so for 1 chili and 1 guac - u need 2/3 + 3/4 tomato = 17/12 tomatoes so for 6 of each u need 6* 17/12 = 8.5 cups of chopped tomatoes

12 small tomatoes will make 6 cups of chopped tomatoes..

So it won't be enough.

You need 6(2/3+3/4) = 8.5 cups

12 tomatoes make 12*1/2 = 6 cups
No, not enough. You would need 5 more tomatoes

You're solving for x right? -5x-8=12 +8 +8 ________ -5x =20 /-5 /-5 ______ x= -4 -4x + 5 = -15 -5 -5 __________ -4x = -20 / -4 /-4 _______ x = -5 7x + 32 = 4 -32 -32 __________ 7x = -28 / 7 / 7 ________ x = -4 73 - x = 18 -73 -73 __________ -x = -55 * -1 * -1 __________ x = 55 5x - 3 = 12 +3 +3 __________ 5x = 15 /5 /5 _______ x = 3 In each problem, you're trying to isolate x, in other words you're trying to get x alone on one side. So like in 7x+32 =4, you first would subtract 32 from BOTH sides (what you do to one side of the equation, you have to do to the other) which would leave you with 7x = -28. To get rid of the 7x, you would divide both sides by 7 and end up with x = -4. Hope that helps :)

6 x 2/3 = 4
6 x 3/4 = 4 1/2
total required = 8 1/2

12 x 1/2 = 6
so it is not enough
