Why don't you try a brief overview of the development of popular music from say your grandparents to your own times. There is absolutely tonnes of stuff you could find to say. There are loads of sources available and you could tie the types of music to events that were happening at the times.

You don't spell out what your have to do for this history fair - do you have to write a long or short paper - do you have to give a presentation - will it involve elements of both.

Approach this from the way music could be argued as reflecting historical events or vice versa.
