Not only does it not go past 4k rpm, but the rpm bounces back down, if you will, when more gas is given. I've looked at these: http://www.msdignition.com/mari_3.htm Will they do the job? Are they compatable? If so, how do I install?

As noted by another poster - you do not want your V6 Grand Am to exceed 4000 rpm - unless you would rather walk........

Did you read the note portion of the web site ? You probably have a rev. limiter, as most or all v6's do. The v6 should not be over revved it has a tendency to come apart.
