I drive a sales route for a living and everything is fine until I go back to the company warehouse at the end of the day. The last 45 minutes I do some paperwork and load my truck for the next day. I know it's only 45 minutes, but I always feel like shi*. Everyone else is yacking it up and I'm the quiet guy with nothing to say. I barely talk to anyone, unless they say something to me first and I'm pretty sure I've already been labeled as the "outcast" by my co-workers. But, I'm naturally shy, so I really can't help it. Is it such a crime to just do your job and leave without being Mr. Talkative? What do you guys think?

There is nothing wrong with just doing your job, it's just how you are. My dad worked at a place for 40 years and the people had no clue that his brother worked at the same place until my uncle retired... they also didn't know my dad had a wife and family until he retired.

No, it certainly isn't a crime to be shy. I am pretty much the same type of person. I believe that, when you have a job to do, you need to do it the best way you know how. Too much talk-talk in the workplace can bring about problems that you don't need. As long as you aren't downright mean and obnoxious to your co-workers when they speak to you, I wouldn't worry about what they might think.

I think you have to pack alot of work in the last 45 minutes of your day, getting organized for the next. There's no way of knowing what your co-workers are yaking about or think of you so don't drive yourself crazy wiht that, you would never be able to change anyone's way of thinking.

Just try to be as friendly and smile and do your job and who knows maybe they look at you as the quiet guy that always shows up and is ready to go. Its the person that signs your pay cheque you have to concern yourself with, doing things the way he wants them done. Take life lightly and it will reward you wiht laughter,it is ok to find yourself funny at times. We are all human and susceptable to ridicule and just plain good humor with no harm done thing. It happens to almost everyone.

My husband is like that, shy, not a talkative person. Since I met him he has always been antisocial even with family. My husband used alcohol to self medicate, and he became an alcoholic instead. His antisocial anxieties have gotten worse because he never got diagnosed.

This is called antisocial anxieties, and there is medication for it. See a professional for help.

TO GET AHEAD IN A WORK ENVIRONMENT YOU HAVE TO BE SOCIAL TO MOVE UP THE LADDER.

GOD BLESS! AMEN! SHALOM!
