My dad is going to be 59 this month. My mom, sister, and I are actually worried about what has been happening to him lately. First off, one normal night of him coming back from work and after dinner, he went over to the couch and all of a sudden started shivering. Mind you, this is on a normal summer night where it wasn't even cold at all. He started to shiver as though he just came out of the antarctic sea. He asked us to give him a sweater and some blankets in a quick hurry. This freaked us out but he was okay after about 10 minutes when he just relaxed and got back to normal.

We thought it might just be the beginning of the flu or something. However, he has been complaining that he is waking up at night, or not sleeping at all. It's apparent that he is just stressed about financial situations and other things. The shivering happened again, this time he was at his shop (hes a mechanic), and he ended up closing b/c of it. He's going to the doc's soon, but what do u think is wrong?

I forgot to mention that he had kidney stone problems, but he passed the stones and was feeling great after that. But the shivering doesn't seem normal. Any doctors, or nurses, is this a sign of something to come? Even though he is going to go to the doc's, I'm curious to know if anyone can explain this...?

It could be any number of things and certainly worth the wait until he is evaluated by a doctor. In the meantime, is the appointment date set? If not, encourage him to make one.

Agreed with Justme: Your dad does need a check-up ASAP. His internal thermostat isn't working right, and there are a number of things that could indicate, from stroke to low blood pressure to some vitamin deficiency.
