I took a 2000 Chrysler cirrus in to get back brakes which I'm pretty sure the back brakes had never been serviced and there were a bunch of problems with it all legit things that needed to be replaced.
The thing is on the bill they charged me what seems like a lot to replace brake drums, I was just curious what is the most you would expect to pay to replace brake drums even if they were ripping you off slightly.

i am not real sure how much for chrysler parts, but i just bought a pair of drums for my 2001 ford taurus, and they cost me 160.00 for the pair. i will do the repair myself, cuz i know it will be cheaper an professionally done. i havent bought my shoes yet, and i plan on getting a rebuild kit for the springs and the cylinders. i m figuring it'll run about 220.00 total. (including bleeding the lines and brake fluid replacement)

This isn't a black-or-white question. It depends upon the actual condition of the entire braking system at the time the brakes were repaired.
Driving until the drums were damaged, and to what extent, creates a list of residual problems. So, it might not just be drums and brake shoes, but there is a possibility of damaging the parking brake, wheel cylinders, backing plates, etc. This could also affect labor costs, which are usually based on a flat fee regardless of how long it actually takes to make the repair.
The shop also has a mark-up on the parts they replace.

Brake drums should run around $30-60 dollars each. If a dealer is replacing them I would say that they would charge anywhere fron $125.00 each to $175.00 each. I have a car that has 4 wheel disc brakes, but when I needed rotors, I was quoted by the dealer for $198.00 each, I shopped around and paid $32.00 each new, but the dealer parts had a film of corrosion preventive on then that wears off the friction surface and stays on the exposed surface. Worth the extra cost? To me no, but that was the immediate noticeable difference. This is why for brake jobs I do all my own work, but I am mechanically inclined , (I am not insinuating that you are not)
Dealer prices are high, but your work is guaranteed and they use dealer trained meachanics, as well as make specific authorized parts.
If you do you own work and can wait for parts try www.rockauto.com
I use them when I can, and if nothing else you can judge what parts should roughly cost.

It isn't worth the trouble and expense. The car is factory designed to brake with discs at the front and drums at the rear. If you are successful you will only achieve an imbalance in the braking and will probably find that the rear wheels lock and lose grip. Not a practical proposition.
