i really like the manuals but i heard with BMW's u have to be very pro to get a good performance using their manual gear box, for example, a normal driver won't get from 0 to 62 in the advertised 5.5 seconds with a manual gear box. Why is that?

Like others have said, the 335i is not available with an SMG gearbox. The manual is definately the enthusiast's choice for transmission, and if you're accustomed to driving a stick than it really shouldn't be a problem. It just takes some getting used to since every car has a different "feel." If you don't feel confident in your manual driving skills, I'm sure the Steptronic automatic offers plenty of good performance too. It is even offered with paddle shifters on the steering wheel if you opt for the sport package, which allow you to shift the car manually without removing your hands from the wheel. That way you don't have to worry about using a clutch either. Personally, I would get the manual just because it's a fun car and it deserves a fun transmission to go with it. Just take some time to learn how to drive it right.
As for people who think automatics are the best thing ever and manuals suck, they're just lazy and lack driving enthusiasm. They don't deserve to drive a BMW if they can't learn to appreciate the standard manual transmission for it's sporty intentions. I'm not saying automatics are a bad thing (my BMW is an automatic, although I wish it wasn't) I just think that you can't fully enjoy the driving experience unless you're using a manual transmission..

the 335i coupe doesnt come with smg.

but even if it did i prefer the manual. good old fashioned stick shift. you just cant beat that!

and you dont have to be a pro, but you hve to be good at it. just practice, you will get better quick if you drive it daily.

good luck and have fun

SMG is known as automatic
and manual is faster and more power
SMG is like Lamborghini's etc... e-gear.
